Health Benefits of Lemon Water

What is lemon water?
Lemon water is simply freshly squeezed lemon juice added to pure drinking water. Yes, it is different from Lemonade, which is sweetened. Sugar requires minerals to be used efficiently, and as it's bad for your health, sort of defeats the purpose. You could use real maple syrup, or other healthy sweetener, if you must, or try an older lemon that is aged and sweeter. Use anywhere from a few drops to more than a tablespoon of lemon juice per cup of water. Warm distilled water is best, as it helps to make the nutrients in the juice more available for the body to use. Just make sure that the water is not over 120°, or it will destroy the enzymes. The juice from fresh lemons is ideal, it has not been cooked like storebought juices, and so it contains enzymes that can be very helpful for the body. Don't put the rind of the lemon in your water unless it is free from pesticides and other chemicals. (If your lemons are organic and well washed, they could be used. Citrus rinds are full of bioflavonoids, oils, and vitamins.)
Why drink lemon water?
Lemon is known to support the liver and gallbladder. Drink it first thing in the morning to stimulate your liver, and the rest of your body, to detoxify from waste products and chemicals.
If you have acid reflux, consider drinking strong lemon water to lower the pH of your stomach acid instead of apple cider vinegar.
A small amount of lemon water after meals can also support digestion. Just make sure that you don't drink so much as to dilute stomach acids (anything over 3oz is too much)
Lemon is also a good source of vitamin C (although it usually has less than fresh broccoli)
Lemon juice can also be added to city water to help the chlorine evaporate faster! Squeeze in a teaspoon or so per cup and wait at least 5 minutes for the chlorine to evaporate.
If when you drink water, it "runs right through", consider adding lemon juice to help your body recognize the water as food, so it will be absorbed and used properly, hydrating your cells and removing waste products accordingly.
