Herbal Salves can be used for many complaints, depending on the herbs that they're made from. They are also really easy to make!
For a salve, you will need infused oil and beeswax. If you don't know how to make an infused oil, check out our article on making herbal infused oil at this link:
To make the salve, simply warm 1 cup of infused oil with 1oz of chopped beeswax until it has melted and pour it into containers. It is best to put a couple drops of essential oil in the bottom of the container before pouring the salve in, to help preserve it better.
Cool it slightly before capping.
That's it! You've made a Salve!
Almost any herb can be used in the infused oil, but herbs that are Vulnerary (which means healing) are best for salves that will be used on scratches or cuts. Plantain (Plantago spp.) is a good example of a vulnerary herb.
Narrowleaf Plantain
(Plantago lanceolata)
Another herb that is good for salves is Yarrow (Achillea millefolium). Yarrow is vulnerary and hemostatic, which means that it is great for cuts that are still bleeding a little.

Here's the recipe summarized:
Medicinal Salve:
1 cup base oil
1 oz dried herbs
1 oz beeswax
Make an infused oil with the base oil and herbs, strain. Wipe the double boiler with a paper towel to remove any herb pieces that remain, do not rinse. Put the strained oil back into the double boiler and add 1 oz of shredded beeswax, mix until melted. Cool slightly and pour into clean, dry containers that have had a couple drops of essential oil added to the bottom. Let cool completely and then cap. Store in the refrigerator for longest shelf life.
